I’m not a good ocean swimmer
(Yet).
Sometimes I don’t know how I get myself into things sometimes. Ok so that’s not entirely true. You see- I do have a life philosophy to follow our curiosities and the things that call to us. One day on a flat water surf session with the crew in Sitges, Barcelona, Spain, I just had too much time sitting on my board looking at things around me that I wished I had had my camera with me. The Mediterranean was flat as a lake that day so folks were being silly trying to stand on their surfboards as if they were paddle boards, and a handful of other shenanigans. While I observed their banter of play and water, I decided then and there that I would start capturing these moments. And that I would give myself the project of learning surf photography.
Because this is also surf culture, not just the wave-catching part. But I knew I didn’t want to capture these moments with my cellphone or even a GoPro. So when I got home that afternoon, I did what I always do when I’m excited with a new desire, I spent hours digging around eager for education and next steps. And oh gosh, I’m not a good ocean swimmer. Yikes. I better learn that too.
